The Masters…
Not the one in Augusta, last week I spoke with a former NCAA champion swimmer about his experiences (never knew he was one), both in athletics and business it helped me solidify my thought around how i feel about my running today.
There is something different about how I am now approaching my running, I am not sure what it is but it’s there. Maybe it’s having a coach (Marc) and being more accountable to the work he is doing, maybe it’s because once again i getting close to a level of performance I think, know, I can achieve. Maybe, it’s mine, the only one who can make it happen is me. Training, nutrition, performance.
It’s also a long term set of goals, not unlike career goals, but goals just the same. Goals which build upon each other, not a bucket list marathon or BQ, it’s racing at the Masters level! It will take years of training, commitment and patience.
I have always believed that you have to have long term objectives, so competing on the masters level makes total sense to me. This is long term and having to compete in the New York City area will make it even more competitive. But then moving to a small town doesn’t make sense either.
How I get there is another thing, but here are some of my goals for the next 2 years
Longer Term Goals:
1. Sub 1:40:00 half marathon - 2013
2. Sub 6:00 mile - 2012
3. Sub 3:30:00 marathon - 2012/2013
4. Sub 22:00 5k - 2013
5. Sub 44:00 10k - 2013
6. Qualify for Boston (time)
7. Guaranteed Entry in NYC Marathon (time)
I am sure there are more goals, top tens, top threes, winning ;-)
well its out there now…i better get Running ;-)
