2012 starts off with an other lesson
As a first race for the the year and coming off an injury, yesterday’s NYRR 10K wasn’t a bad start to the year but once it was over and realized I was not far off my target, it showed I really went into the race without a good enough plan. Originally I thought I would go out at a nice even pace and see where I was at the end. 61 seconds off my PR is not awful but the fact I could have gone out a bit hard the last 1.5 miles didn’t hit me until after it was all over.
the splits were:
- 8:08.1
- 8:23.0
- 8:17.0
- 8:47.0
- 8:53.0
- 8:30.0
- 2:03.6
- 53:01.7
which meant mile 4 was ok due to one of the Central Park hills but I could have shaved 20 seconds in mile and 20-30 seconds during the last mile, which would have put me in range for a PR. that an “less resting” at the water stops…..
Lesson 1 for 2012, be better prepared with a race plan…I should already know that one
well off for 11ish miles….

Still good work dude! Getting the pacing right on the first one back is always a nightmare but it will come.
