There is a slim chance I might be able to run the Brooklyn Half marathon saturday , so how far to run today is the question …..
and there is a run n my very near future, i will probably be in the gym by 5:45, get a run in then off to Long island. so my schedule is nearly back to where I like it.
We have our cruise to the Bahamas coming up at the end of next week, so it will only be un-scheduled, impromptu run on the ship (yes you will al get some pics, not of the run but of the trip), we have sorted out laundry too, so i can worry less about we smelly clothes. but it does challenge training, so its all out for the the days leading up to our departure.
I was reviewing my split times from last saturday’s 10k, and as i suspected, the first 3 miles time were within 00:00:20 of my 5k PR set back in 2002! I had been thinking that I would look to set a new 5k PR in July but there happens to be a flat (fast) race about 15 minutes from where i will be this Sunday, maybe I can set 2 PRs in 2 weeks? its not quite the 2 Half Marathons I was planning to run before the cruise but, I will take 2 PRs, especially on that has stood since 2002! Just a little extra Motivation leading up to this weekend.
If ( I mean when I succeed ) then that leaves just 1 PR left from the younger me, The Half 1:47:17 set at 1993 Long Island Marathon, thats a an early 2013 target but, Who knows….
It’s all been a challenge, with my position being eliminated at work (political upheaval and subsequent collateral damage, Me) all that spare time should have helped with more time to train, well it didn’t. Instead getting up at 4am, i could now get up at 6:30 get out and run or what ever, oh yeah and start looking for a job, but I forgot how disruptive a schedule change is after such a long time getting up so early, I was staying up later which did have its benefits.
Part of the collateral damage was my running, 2 changes in racing was playing havoc with my head and motivation, No NJ Half Marathon, no Brooklyn Half, the relaxing in cape cod didn’t accomplish that. But on the drive back I figured out part of the problem was not planning my “new” schedule, so i didn’t need to get up at 4, but 630 was too late. so its back to 5AM, look for a job opportunities and run. (and we are going on a cruise to the Bahamas at the end of the month which will take more time out from training) Trying not to fix it all in a few days, i just put in shorter but consistant runs, nothing to hard. By tuesday i knew i needed a race, something to focus on, hence the Newport 10,000. That set the running plan for the rest of the week. 5 days, 3,3,5,3 and 2 miles leading up to Saturday’s 10K.
in my mind not only was I was going to run this race, I was going to set a place for 10k PR, i have a good base just not fantastic training going into the race. So my Garmin was set for at 50:00 pace which would take 1:06 off my PR. Let’s see what happens…
The Garmin Splits were
10k - 50:43 - new PR, just a little more work to sub 50:00
At least now my head is back on straight ( well a little more straight ) and mentally i am feeling a bit better. i still have to work out a revised race schedule, its way to important, and find work….
but for now i will just bask in the glow of anther PR, I do have to give credit to Marc without his help with training I probably would not have had the confidence to set out to set another PR….number 6 under Marc!
Happy Mothers Day!
Clock time not net
They posted 50:56. My Garmin said 50:43! 1 or 2 seconds I can see but not 13……my time wins!
